Originated from Shaolin Temple, Shaolin Martial Arts hence named. Lying about 13 kilometers northwest of Dengfeng City, Henan Province, Shaolin Temple was established in the 19th year of Taihe of Emperor Xiaowen of the Northern Wei Dynasty (495) for Indian Monk Batuo to spread Buddhism in Chi-na. Since the temple was established in dense woods at the foot of Shaoshi Mountains, hence the name.
