World Geopark and National 5A-level Tourist Attraction

Yuntai Mountain has long been known for rugged topography and clouds swirling around its peaks and valleys. Covering an area of 280 square kilometers, Yuntai Mountain features breathtaking and picturesque scenes. Scaling a long trestle boardwalk, visitors can reach Zhuyu Peak, situated at an altitude of 1,308 meters. Yuntai Mountain is also known for its cascades. Yuntai Sky Waterfall has an amazing drop of 314 meters. Popular scenic spots at this site include the Red Stone Gorge, Tanpu Gorge and Qinglong Gorge, featuring diversified and imposing views.

World Geopark and National 5A-level Tourist Attraction

Celebrated as the equivalent of the Three Gorges along the Yangtze River and the miniature Guilin in northern Henan, Qingtian River Scenic Area features a combination of the defining features of the north and south Chinese landscapes. It is spread over 106 square kilometers and consists of 308 scenic spots in seven tourism sections. Highlights of the scenic zone include the world’s only Natural Great Wall, Egg-Laying Cliff – an amazing wonder of nature, the Sangu Spring – hailed as the “Top Spring” in China, the Daquan Lake and the largest maple forest in the country, covering around 16,500 acres.

Miracles of Taihang Landscape

Red Flag Canal is a large-scale water conservancy project built adjacent to the Taihang mountainous terrain, which is also called the “Artificial Milky Way”. With around 1500 kilometers in length, it was started in 1960s and took about ten years in completion. This grand project is situated on the picturesque cliffs of Taihang Mountain, with a dangerously steep terrain. Taihang Grand Canyon stretches 50 kilometers from north to south and 1.5 kilometers from east to west. It is located at an elevation of 800-1,739 meters, with a relative height difference above 1,000 meters. It is a typical representative of the “Grand Northern Scenery”. Rafting at Taihang Grand Canyon is a must-have experience for tourists.

Covering an area of 64 square kilometers, Wanxian Mountain features a topography that is typical of the Southern Taihang Mountain. This scenic area is one of China’s best-known summer resorts and destinations for leisure, outdoor activities, filmmaking and painting. It features a mountainous landscape, boasting numerous picturesque peaks, valleys and daunting cliffs. The scenic zone comprises Guoliang – Filmmaking Base, Nanping – Mountain Villages, Luojie Zhai – Paradise on Earth and Sanhu – Holy Site of Buddhism.
tips: Tourists get a chance to visit the highway carved through rock faces at Guoliang, which is hailed as one of the “18 most extraordinary highways across the globe”. Meandering above bottomless abysses along the highway is a unique and thrilling experience.

Huilong Tianjie Mountain Scenic Area has about a hundred natural and cultural scenic spots. Huilong Grand Canyon is like a giant basin, or a black dragon. It features an endless trail of wonderful red rock cliffs. Green hills, blue water, white clouds and blue sky complement the ancient trees, mountain breeze and folk houses, forming a delightful panorama depicting the unique charm of Taihang Mountains.

Soul of Taihang Mountains

Baligou Scenic Area is home to towering cliffs, clear springs and verdant trees. It gathers the best elements of the Taihang landscape. Baligou is characterized by idyllic beauty. The main scenic spots in this area include Peach Blossom Ferry, Temple of Mountain God, Sheep Island and Red Stone River. Each scene has its unique charm. Reputed as “No. 1 Waterfall in North China”, the Great Waterfall of Baligou has a fall of 180 meters. Hanging by the cliff, it gallops downwards with a grandiose momentum.

National Geological Park

The canyon is about 12 kilometers in length. The scenic area is dominated by the typical geological landscape of the Red Rock Valley. The valley houses gorges, ponds, waterfalls and precipitous cliffs. As a result of geological deposition of 1.2 billion years and cutting and erosion by water flow for 2.6 million years, wonderful views of high gorges, deep valleys, mountain falls and earth splits have come into being, which are no less than the wonders of the world. It has the reputation of being the “No. 1 Valley in China” and “Natural Museum of Ancient Seas”.

World Geopark

Mount Daimei is adjacent to the Yellow River in the north, close to Xiaolangdi Reservoir in the east, near Sanmenxia Dam in the west, and neighboring Luoyang, capital of 13 dynasties, in the south. It is the only World Geopark surrounded by the Yellow River on three sides. Within the scenic area, there are 16 peaks, with the main peak being 1,346.6 meters above the sea level. The scenic area has many picturesque spots, such as the Mountain Garden, Geological Gallery, Prairie Attraction, Grand View of the Yellow River, Love between Tang and Dai, Kiss of the Angel, and others.

A Charming Kingdom

Located at the heart of Funiu Mountains, this area covers a total area of 300 square kilometers. It is home to the largest old-growth forest with the most complete ecosystem in Henan and the Central Plains. The forest houses more than 3000 species of plants, of which 31 are rare and endangered. It also features more than 260 species of animals, of which more than 30 are key animals under national protection, such as leopard, giant salamander and golden pheasant. It is reputed as “Natural Species Gene Bank”.

Baotianman Canyon is 12.8 km in length, with an overall fall of 239 meters. The area is distributed in two major rafting sections, four big recreation areas and nine scenic spots. The torrent rafting section for the expert is 8 kilometers long, with a rafting time of 3 hours. It is an ideal place for adventurous rafting. The leisurely rafting section having a gentle flow is 4.8 kilometers long, with a rafting time of 1 hour and 20 minutes. It is suitable for people of all ages.

Famous Cultural Mountain

Mt. Yaoshan has a total area of 260 square kilometers. It is located in the eastern part of the 800-mile Funiu Mountains in west Henan. Its main peak Yuhuangding has an altitude of 2,153 meters above the sea level. It is the watershed of three big rivers: Yellow River, Huaihe River and Yangtze River. Mt. Yaoshan has a number of odd peaks and dangerous cliffs, with numerous waterfalls. In some sections, the dripping water has pierced the stone and accumulated into ponds. Of the many waterfalls, the Nine-Curve Waterfall and White Dragon Pond Waterfall are the most spectacular.

Known as a “China‘s Miniascape” and “Kingdom of Amazing Rocks”, Chaya Mountain is endowed with numerous rocks of extraordinary shapes, including Monkey Rock, Otherworldly Rock and Sea-Tranquilizing Rock. These spots are extremely popular among the tourists. Moreover, Chaya Mountain also features precipitous cliffs, towering peaks and deep and serene caves and valleys, which make this area an ideal destination for adventurers. Wu Cheng’en, author of Journey to the West, found retreat in Chaya Mountain, which inspired his literary works.

Celebrated as the “Pearl of Southern Henan”, Nanwan Lake features green mountains and 61 islets scattered across pristine waters. The islets boast thriving trees while the lake entertains tourists with a view of the rippling turquoise water. Upstream, there are endless mountains shrouded in clouds and mists, which are the major production area of the world-famous “Xinyang Maojian Tea”.

Summer Resort

Jigong Mountain’s main peak boasts an elevation of 768 meters above the sea level. The main peak looks like a crowing rooster heralding the dawn. Thus, it has been named Baoxiao Peak (or Crowing Peak). Along two sides of the peak, there are winding Linghua Mountain and meandering Changling Mountain, resembling two wings of the rooster. The mountain as a whole stands tall among mountains and hills like a proud rooster, hence the name Jigong (or Rooster Mountain). Jigong Mountain is shrouded by clouds and mist all year round. It is home to more than 2,000 kinds of plants and 600 types of traditional Chinese medicines. The mountain is thus often referred to as a “natural botanic and herbal garden”.
